LawMaster to CounselOS migration checklist
LawMaster exports are often CSV-derived with firm-specific history. Treat migration as a controlled project: map data, trial load, reconcile trust, then train staff. CounselOS provides import tooling for LawMaster shape; document content may be metadata-only depending on your export.

Updated
Scope the migration
Document which matters must be active on day one versus archived for reference only. Agree who signs off on trust and matter numbering before any production load.
- Client classes and matter types in LawMaster
- Trust accounts and last reconciliation date
- Fee earner roles to map into CounselOS
- Costs disclosure status on open matters
Export and trial load
LawMaster CSV/JSON exports map into CounselOS. Document file metadata may migrate without full content depending on your export — confirm scope in writing before go-live.
- Clients, contacts, and matter records
- Time entries with rates and narratives
- Trust ledger entries (preserved, not rewritten)
- Outstanding invoices and WIP
Trust ledger preservation
Trust entries should migrate without alteration. Running balances are rebuilt from that history and compared to your bank reconciliation. Discrepancies are resolved with your principal before billing resumes.
Go-live and hypercare
Train fee earners on the approval inbox for trust movements and AI drafts. Keep LawMaster read-only for reference if helpful during the first month.
